28 spl control lever problem

I have a 1989 Johnson 28 spl.I'm tuning up the motor and my manual says that the control lever can be pulled out 1/4" so you can throttle in neutral.I've pulled like the dickens,even used a pry bar,(with not too much force) and I can't get it to pull out.Could it be that I just don't have this feature,or is something locked up?Thanks.

Welcome to iboats. are you spaeking remote control. some pull out, some have a button in the center of the control handle that you push, some have a lever on top of the control that you lift.

Thanks for the repy.Seems the original was changed out at some point to a single lever OMC.That's what that lever at the top is for) Thanks for the direction.
