Wondering what the final ratio is for a 280 DP that was mounted on a 185 HP diesel? The seller doesn't seem to know... Its a ways so I can't go check it out myself. Also can you put one of those 290 or later DP prop cones on it? It only has a nut, but I think the cone looks better :D

Re: 280 DP Gear Ratio

None of Volvos diesel engines using the 280DP had 185 hp, might want to get a model number for the motor. That may not help if the drive was ever changed. Have him get the numbers off the tag on the upper gear box of the drive. The tag is right in front of the front cap.

Re: 280 DP Gear Ratio

I did find some info on the 280DP drives on diesels. The AQAD40 6 cyl 165 hp used a 1.95:1 ratio. the smaller 30 series 4 cylinder diesel used a 2.30:1 ratio

The 1.95:1 ratio is what would be used with a small block V8 gas engine.

Re: 280 DP Gear Ratio

The prop shafts are the same on gas and diesel drives, different prop mounting hardware between gas and diesel props. Plus diesel engines use a Type A prop, gas uses Type B so don't expect the diesel props to work on your boat.
