well, we sold the trailer today, so we now have some funds to get the boat done! Hauling isnt that expensive and we are only 10 min from the water. also our truck cant even tow the trailer.

If you sold the trailer how are you going to get it to the water? Awesome video btw.

That engine sounds nice, all right.

With a 29 footer it's probably not real trailerable.... maybe keep it on the water in a slip (nice for getting out on the water quick).

Money to work with is always nice... I'd suggest you stretch it as far as you can, but only what you really need... boat restorations are notorious for "surprise" expenses.

yes, that is the plan, get it on the water, then work some money in to do cosmetics, at least get some use out of it after all this $$ going in.

We plan to store it in a slip, working at a marina i get a discount on slips, aswell as bypassing the 80 person waiting list to get a 30 or 35' slip:p

The boat is tricky to handle on the roads, and our truck is only a half ton and doesnt handle it well at all, we tried to shift it around in our yard and the rear of the truck was like on the ground:eek:

Thought i would get this post back. Finished removing the transom yesterday. Going slow because its too cold to fibreglass right now. Had a freak snowstorm the other day that left a foot of snow on the ground:eek: luckily it didnt stick around as long as the first storm.

Re: 29' Carter Safari

been doing alot of engine prep lately, turns out i had to do extensive rewire of the engines to work in our boat, the previous owner had done some custom wireing job to suit his boat. Got that all sorted out now, and did some primer on some of the parts we have cleaned up. Still in the negative temp's and cant fibreglass yet.

Hello Gents, I Am New To This Site So Be Gentle With Me. I Took On The Very Same Boat Project A Few Years Ago. I Still Have My 1973 Safari By Carter Marine. My Wife And I Purchased It In November, Near Palm Springs California. And Had Her On The Water By The Fourth Of July (including Restoration Of A 75 Ford F-600 To Pull Her) I Remeber Everything You Are Going Through (minus The Transom Problem) I Hope You Don't Run Into The Problem I Did. The Fuel Tank Is Fiberglass Molded Into The Floor. One Week Before We Where To Leave On Vacation With Her. We Started Putting Fuel In And Had It Running Out Into The Bilge. Something To Check. I Had To Cut The Floor Out And Install A New Fuel Cell! Good Luck And I Will Try And Post A Picture Of Our Boat.

Hello!
Looks awesome to actually see what it looks like on the water. July 4th is basically our same goal too! You are the second person I have heard the fuel tank issue from, basically the same story both times, Uh-Oh. I would love to hear more stories, tips and experiences (whether good or bad) and see more pics if you have anymore! It's late, and I have to get up at 6 so I'm off to bed, but I will post again when I get home from school tomorrow.
Your Carter Brother,
Brett

Re: 29' Carter Safari

great to hear other stories! we have heard about the fuel tank issue, our only saving grace( i hope) is that our fuel tanks was about a 1/4 full when we found it. it was not untill i broke the seal on the sender unit a month later that we smelled any fuel. at that time i pumped out the old fuel, and ever since that seal has been broken we have had a fuel aroma in the bilge. so i hope when i seal it back up with a new sender the aroma will go away meaning its sealed.
