Cool stuff guys, your a couple of very savy teenagers (way beyond your years) who should be very proud of the job you have done to that boat. Keep up the great work.

Re: 29' Carter Safari

Thanks for all of the positive feedback! It really means allot. The view out my window is of Nanoose Bay, the moon is flickering on it right now and I can lightly here a radio babbling at the US base a few KM down the bay :p

We kept plucking away at the boat today, got the gauge panels, etc. done. We are quite satisfied with how they turned out. Started working on block-off plates, more fuel work and finished off the water hose, a few other misc things as well.

Pictures!...

All that was too worthy of pics was the helm....

Re: 29' Carter Safari

i dont have the same view as brett, mine is looking out at our boat, and a bunch of trees, i have to go to work to get that view:p..
no, no amp yet, we just got the basics for now, so that we dont need an inverter right off the bat to play music through the 120 stereo that we had up till this point. the pictures of the dash just dont do justice, its soo pretty!! LOL

Re: 29' Carter Safari

I have been working on wiring all week, Port engine is completely wired and turns over now with the key. Started on the starboard today. My dad and i also made the custom alternator brackets. As you may or may not know, when we decided to rotate the manifolds 180* so that the exits are at the front, we didnt even think about the alternators. Turns out the mounting point for the alternators would not work with the manifolds this way, so we had to fabricate custom mounts that relied soley on the block, and did not hang off the manifold like the stock configuration is. I will get some pictures tomorrow of the custom brackets... They turned out really welll.

The engines should be ready to run in the boat by the end of the weekend, the boat may see water as soon as tuesday or wednesday!

wiring is now complete, alternators mounted, risers and spacer mounted on port engine, starboard is almost there. rest of exhaust getting installed tomorrow, and then the engines can fire up. We put 50 liters of fuel in the tank today, and the gauge didnt even get up to empty:eek:... I also made up a proper shore power cable, rather then the leads crimped to a random plug i cut off an old appliance...:p

looking great. maybe a labor day cruise. oh well you are in Canada, but can celebrate US labor day. also what i like best is that you have kept the priorities in order, safe good running boat, then the cosmetics.

Re: 29' Carter Safari

Port engine is now running in the boat!!! had some water leak issues which ended up being a PITA to fix. Once we got them undercontrol it was all good!! idling at 600rpm, Temp maintained at ~175F, oil pressure at ~40, volts at ~13.... at about 3k rpm oil was up around 75, temp and volt stayed pretty much the same..

Hoping to fire up the starboard engine tomorrow, and possibly a vid of them both running together..

Re: 29' Carter Safari

Looks pretty good. Isn't that going to be kinda loud while crusing?

Re: 29' Carter Safari

there are internal flappers.. its actually not that loud, the water muffles the sound a fair bit.. My inline 6 with straight headers is way louder...

Re: 29' Carter Safari

Make sure the flappers are working, it won't take much to get backwash into the exhaust. Also, you said your oil pressure was 75 at idle, is that 75 PSI at idle? That's pretty high. What are you guys running in it, a 50 weighted oil?
Might want to check that kink in the hose coming off of the port engine, starboard side exhaust manifold going to the radiator tank. At least he picture makes it look like its got a kink in the line and shore up that orange hose.

Re: 29' Carter Safari

oops, oil was 40 at idle, 75 at around 3k rpm.

that orange line is all temporary, we need to get a 90 degree fitting and some more water line to finish that off... Hopefully we will get all that today.. Along with a good running vid aswell:D
