i took the time to go through the different forums and was ont able to find specific answer...therefore: just purchased 12' boat (built 1975), came with small outboard (mod # 2r77c, s/n e4613175). Looks like the "choke" buttom is missing. Have tried turning on (got I got it from told me he used it last year)but it won't start. three questions: a) what year is the engine so I can look up owners/repair manual, b) is there an acutal "choke" buttom on this model? c) if so, is there any way to adjust the engine so it can start even if it's missing the bottom? thanks to all (ps: don't spare the whip...even popeye started out as a "cadet"...) all starterd second

Hiya,

the choke is the upper left spot on the front (square opening to left of the upper mixture adjustment). On mine, the end (knob part) of the plastic choke slide is broken off flush with the little panel. But, you can stick your left index finger around the back and push the choke slide out from the back.... when it doesn't need choke anymore, just push the choke slide back flush. So if it's broken off flush, it's no problem. It's not even irritating enough for me to bother changing the part. The only problem is for someone who doesn't know the motor to try and start it cold! Of course yours might be missing that part completely ?.

Good luck.
Brent

Oh, and don't forget to open the vent on the gas cap, otherwise it'll make a vacuum in the tank and not stay running. If you don't screw the vent open all the way, it can vibrate closed again while it's running and look like some intermittent problem (learned that the hard way).

Brent
