I was cruising across the lake the other day in my fishing canoe with my 1971 2hp Evinrude. it was running perfect and after 5 min I decided to open her up to full throttle. Did perfect for about 2 min and it slowly started idling down, slower and slower until it finally died. 10 minutes of pulling the rope and an unwound recoil spring later I found myself paddling a half of a mile back to shore.
What could've happened? The fuel cap vent was open, the fuel valve was open and she was purring like a kitten. I thought maybe it got too hot so I pulled the water pump impeller today and it looks fine. I don't know how to tell if it needs replacing though.
Also, this motor being mounted to the side of my canoe sits deep in the water. The 4 water relief ports are under water when im not moving. Could this be causing it not to pump properly?
