I recently had my 2hp mariner 2 stroke outboard serviced and was told it was working perfectly. The next day I took it out for a short ocean cruise on my small boat and upon heading back against the current it cut out. Each time I hit the waves I heard the revs on the engine slow down (as the boat raised in the water) until finally the engine cut out. I was forced to row 1/3 of a mile to the nearest beach. During this time (an hour) I managed to make the engine start twice, but each time it stopped again after about 30 seconds. After managing to get to shore, we had to deflate the boat and carry the engine and boat up a 200 step cliff path to the nearest road to be picked up. The spark plug was replaced, impeller replaced and the fuel is fine...but it still stopped...
My question, regarding the waves and revs I mentioned, what may be wrong with the engine?
