I am going to add a second battery to my boat and also a battery switch so i can use/recharge one or both. I have a 60hp 1990 johnson and am a bit tight on space and want to keep the weight down at the stern. What is the smallest size battery I can get away with for starting the boat? would say a motorcycle battery start it?
My main battery is a deep cycle and I would like to use this for the ancillaries (sonar, 12v, pumps, etc)

No, you don't want a motorcycle battery. That size motor a battery with a minimum of around 350 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is typically recommended.
A typical group 24 battery will normally fit. Size 7" x 11" by 9" high

If you want a smaller case, you might check the auto parts stores batteries and see how small one with 350 CCA is.
