3.0 drive oil

ive got a resivoir on the side of my 3.0 that says "drive oil" its low and i need to get more but i dont have my book and im not sure what kind of oil it is or what its for. any help would be great as im trying to take the boat out for the fourth and dont wanna run it with the fluilds low.

If it's a Mercruiser, use Mercruiser gear lube for I/O......
I would wonder WHY it is low.....
It should never lose any....
I would keep a close eye on it after you fill it, if the level drops again, you have a problem......;)

it happened during the winter. its coming out of the vent from the top of the cap. i guess it got cold and expanded or something because i noticed it running down the side of the resivoir when i uncovered the boat for the summer. thanks for the help

Cold doesn't cause oil to expand, heat does. Was the boat winterized by anyone? Could be someone spilled some on the bottle while filling after a gear lube change.

IF, it's a Mercruiser, you need to use the Hi Performance gear lube (Green color) so as not to mix oil types.

I see you are putting a lot of prep work into getting it ready for the 4th. Starting on the 3rd. :rolleyes:

boat was winterized by my brother but i dont believe he did anything with the gear lube. i hope i dont have a problem with the foot as i just replaced the lower unit on my merc 40 ob last week. btw it is a mercruiser with alpha outdrive. lol no i did the prep work before but forgot about the oil and woke up from a sound sleep this am and oh *&I^ so now im scrambling to get this oil done. thanks for the help
