I have a 98 3.0L mercruiser with one lifter that is concave on bottom of lifter causing the valve to not fully open and close properly and I am not sure if that means I would need to replace the cam also. Any suggestions?

Yes I would replace both the cam and lifters

would also check the valves are moving ok

would think this is the result of lack of lubrication or sticking valve

Hiya, I am running an old flat tappet cam and lifter set-up in my 1981 Mercruiser 898 (marine 305 Chevy). After putting in the rebuild, I am using 10W40 Lucas Hot Rod and classic motor oil. It has the necessary ZDDP additive to protect the cam and lifters. Check that out if it would work for you and your engine after you replace the necessary components.

It looks like it on just that one valve all other s seems fine. Thanks.
thats fine and dandy, however you cant just replace one lobe on a cam.

you can attempt to replace the one lifter, and maybe you get lucky and the new lifter breaks in just fine and the cam doesnt eat it.

however most likely, the cam will eat the new lifter

you also cant swap lifters around as they marry the cam lobe for life
