3.0 omc prop issue?

I have a 1990 pontoon with a 3.0 OMC cobra drive in it. I took it out for the first time over the weekend and it ran great. The only problem we had with the boat was when I was cruising about 2400 rpm's and decided to push it harder it would act like it was going out of gear. The motor would rev up but it seemed like the prop disengaged. If I slowed down and reved back up slowly it would be engaged and do fine. The problem only happened when I tried to raise the rpms up past 2500 rpms. Before I put it in the water I noticed the prop had a little end play didn't know it that was normal or not. Does anyone have a direction they can point me on this one.

Thanks
Dave

Re: 3.0 omc prop issue?

It seems you may have venting issues, did you try to adjust the trim?
Usually trim on a pontoon is just to find a setting that has the least venting problems.
You could also have a spun hub.Remove the prop and draw a water proof line across the hub do a test run and see if the line is broken.
