3.0 OMC to 4.3 Merc

I'm thinking about replacing my 3.0 omc cobra with a 4.3 mercruiser. I've replaced transmissions in trucks but never a boat. Is the hull mount(transom?) the same for the omc and the merc? How much work is this really?

The only thing that is the same is the hole in the transom. Everything else but the long block of the engine is different.
