Re: 3.0 to 4.3 Questions

Skiing two up is fun. Keep the rope lengths the same though, so the back skier can't clothesline the front skier. They can still crash into each other, so be safe.

FWIW, we used to ski two 175 lb adults behind grandpa's 17 foot tri-hull with a 85 HP outboard. The prop was low pitched to pull up skiers, and top speed was about 25 - 28. If you want to ski now and do the motor swap this winter, prop way down and have fun.

I am getting ready to put the new stringers in now. Could i put the stringers in now for the 4.3 along with a front motor mount for my 3.0 and cut it out when ready to put a 4.3 in?

Also is the bell housing on my 3.0 different than a bell housing on a 4.3?

same bellhousing

a 4.3 in a 17 footer should get you 50 - 55 mph in basically stock configuration with 4 BBL or MPI

that's plenty fast for the handling characteristics of most 17's

You just made my day. Thanks for that information. Now where do i get the information like how wide the stringers need to be for the motor mounts?
