Boat didnt plane and bogged down, saw fuel in the tell tale and replaced fuel pump. (New)
Now it wont even start, acts like its flooding itself out.
Spits and sputters.

Noticed that there is alot of gas dripping and dripping in the carb after I tried to start it.
It at least ran before I changed the fuel pump

Is this normal? Could I have a carb problem showing now that new fuel pump is installed?

Thanks Mike

that new pump should give between 4 1/2 and 6 psi a little more is ok but no less.

Sounds like the new pump is overpowering the float and needle.

Me i would check the pressure of the pump and rebuild the carb.

Also i would check the anti-syphin valve, the vent, the fuel pickup tube, and the filter in the fitting that enters the carb. and lets not forget the filter in the fuel pump if there is one there.

Then i would run the boat on a external tank of gas.

The boat did sit about 2 years and I was thinking the new fuel pump would let me know if any carb problems.

Noticed the plugs looked wet and black.

Looks like it did! If fuel pumps could talk this one would be saying "I am doing what I was designed to do, THAT carb needs to be taken apart and cleaned and rebuilt."...!

I know where you're at. I rebuilt my carb {also a 3.0}, & have been trying to get it to run right ever since. I've had enough, & have wasted enough boating time trying to fix this carb. I'm throwing in the towel, & will be ordering a new carb as soon as I can find one at a reasonable price. If u decide to rebuild, make sure it is doable. Mine wasen't. Don S. has said that sometimes carb rebuilds just don't work. He's right, so u must decide if u want to go that route or not. I wish I had just gone ahead & bought a carb from the get-go instead of wasting all this time. Just my .02.
