Alternative to a coil would be a new starter ($$)

You could also replace the solenoid on the starter with one that has a D terminal. Much less painfull.

Just spoke to the person I bought the boat off that he fitted an automotive starter. <br />Looks like I will be looking for a new or refurbished one now.<br />But hey, at least I learned something else about my boat wiring

Managed to get a new one for $110 with shipping. Don't want to mess with automotive electrical parts. Not worth the risk. At least I will have a place for my coil wire

A little help here. Since you all are quite knowledgeable in starter problems, I have a different situation. I have 2000 merc bravo that starts and then dies. The fuel pump also doesn't engage properly. When I jump post D to post A, the engine starts, stays running and the fuel pump engages. I thought it was the solenoid but when I changed it out with another starter, same problem. There is a small chance both solenoids are bad but where do I go next if thats not the case?
