Re: 3.0L Alternator belt question
I just went the opposite way: replaced auto belt (that was on it from previous owner) to a new factory belt from the dealer. Mine is a 1997 3.0LX and the belt that was on it was a NAPA 25-7400. I don't know if it was old, worn, or stretched, but it seemed just a touch too long, but it may give you a starting point. For mine, it looked like the alternator had to be maxed out to tighten the belt. It seemed a little narrower than my new dealer belt too. Mine went on a 1997 Capri 1950 which provides some difficulty getting the belt between the water-pump pulley and the top bushing of the motor-mount.
