Yeah...it is a timing "gear" cover...The gasket set that came with the long block I'm installing right now had a one piece gasket....so you would have to pull the pan to do it right..... You'll need a "puller" to remove the harmonic balancer. I suppose you could just slop up the old gasket with silicone and put it back together.....I wouldn't do it that way.
Then you have to "beat" the vib damper back on when you're done. You might want to replace the seal while you're at it.....
Mercury uses a "driving tool" or similar tool to drive it back on. SOme evidently have a bolt to hold them, The 94 I r&r'd didn't.
Seloc (sic) says you can use a block of wood to install the vib-damper etc....
