Hi all

i got the boat over to Greece, first week she has been fine but today when trying to get out of the hole she bogged down.
tried a few times to no avail then remembered I had left a primer bulb in line with the fuel pump. I pumped it a few times, she bogged down once more then she flew. Back on the plane.

now she has irregular power at about 2000 rpm but I can push her a bit harder and she comes out of it and planes normally.

would you guys say water in fuel ?
cant really tell why or what is causing it. I have rebuilt carb, changed fuel filter on both pump and carb before coming here a couple of weeks ago.

it has no canister type separator

thanks in advance

I'm thinking weak fuel pump or there is a restriction feeding the pump

Check your fuel pump pressure, should be 3-7 psi from idle to WOT

hmmm would a dodgy priming bulb between the tank and pump cause something like this ? I left the priming bulb in place

Normally no, but if the primmer bulb has an issue then yes
That said, there should not be a primer bulb on a inboard, but are great when testing

If there is a restriction with the bulb, the antisiphion valve, or other piece between tank and pump can cause issues with supply

...it has no canister type separator...

Then look at having one sent over and fitting it. If you do have water in the tank, it'll be at the bottom, and get sucked up fairly quickly.

For a small mount of water, a stop-gap solution is to dump 1% by volume of methylated spirit into the tank. The meth binds water molecules to fuel molecules and allows them to be carried through the fuel system and be burnt and spat out the exhaust along with the fuel....

Thanks all - I have a separator arriving tomorrow.

the issue seems to have cleared. I tested it this morning and at 2k rpm it bogged and died, I then found that I could push it through 2k rpm and it went fine and got to 3k rpm no issue.
I then enriched the idle mixture and the idle picked up and the issue seemed to go away and no longer bogs down.

I don’t think it was water and no misfires or pops and seemed to only affect the 2k rpm range.

im going to remove the primer as it failed to prime so may have an issue

Removed primer problem at 2k to 3k rpm still there but not as bad. Can easily push through it on the throttle. Going to adjust mixture by another 1/4 turn and try again

Needs a carb cleaning and maybe the accelerator pump replaced

Carb was only just rebuilt.

Just because it was just done, doesn't mean it was done correctly

As before check your fuel pressure, and it its correct then its the carb, if not then its the supply
