Hey guys. Tried to find some info through old threads. Which was very helpful, but now im lost...

I have a 97 3.0lx. Has new Head Gasket, Intake gasket, and head was tested and told was in great condition. Oils new. Just done like within the last week. had water in oil from blown head gasket... So after those repairs I attempted to get boat running on muffs. Engine will attempt to fire but then sounded like i wasnt getting spark... Removed spark plug to find water in ALL for clyinders... Water removed and re-lubercated. Looked through forum to find its possibly my RISER gasket. So removed riser, seems to be in good shape. while riser was removed i checked the "FLAPPER" it to appeared to be working correctly. Replaced gasket for riser. (CLEANED). Attempt to fire engine up again and same issue. Water in all 4 cylinders. Fairly large amount. Checked oil level and color. Looks like it did when i replaced it. I didnt notice and cracks when i had the mainfold off, nor do i notice any water leaking externally. 1 boat mechanic in my area... and cant see me for 2 weeks. so most of the work ive done myself

go get a new engine.either the head or block is toast and you will not need a mechanic to tell you that water in cylinders with a new gasket means it was probably not winterised.who put the head gasket on and why was the head/block not checked?

Wait a minute before you go motor shopping...If you are comfortable that the head is good start checking elsewhere. Compression is equal and correct, so look where water is. Best logic says to block off & pressurize the cooling system. If it holds pressure, good. If not, is it leaking in a replaceable part? I hope so.
Also check the exhaust side of the manifold for failure in the water jacket. Does your boat have that one piece combination exhaust/intake manifold?
When the failure is in the manifold water jacket water gets in the cylinders through the exhaust valves. Your issue could very possibly be in the exhaust manifold.

NHGuy~

It is a one piece combination E/I manifold...

Seen on some Threads where it says to test cooling system. Im not sure how to do that

got to thinking... maybe a dumb question.

I actually replaced the Bolt for the riser... it called for a Hex .375x16x2.500

Replaced bolt of them... DO they have to be a certain type of Bolt?

did you buy a new one or have the old one rebuilt??

check the rotation of the engine when cranking, looking at the front of the engine, the balancer pulley should be rotating clockwise when cranking

if you installed a starter for a right hand rotation engine this is your problem

Dubs thanks again for your info... Im currently away and unable to check this till morning. The starter is new... I have the shipping info from my order... The "SPEC" says that the starter is ClockWise rotation...{OMC Mercruiser 3.0 Marine L/S Mount 3850526}

Re: 3.0lx water in ALL 4 cylinders

so ive pulled the manifold.. gave it some pressure, nothing. so ran the garden hose through it.. nothing?!?!

Thought maybe the exhaust was clogged... ran hose through it. ran fine. flappers good shape... Oil level still right on. My intake gasket was wet.. faulty? gasket used when replaced was a 18-0680.

ok my next question is: Is it possible to leave the hose on to long to cause back flow? Should the stern be way below the bow? (there fairly even now)

Im so confused and frustrated.

who told you the head was in good condition.suggest you remove it and start from the block up.no good taking other peoples word that something is good because normally only one or two pots fail on a head gasket not all.have you ever had this engine running good or have you just purchased it????????????????

Nope. A cooling system with no issues should not care that the garden hose is on.
