3/4 inch axel?

hey there.. I recently aquired an old boat trailer. I replaced the leaf springs on it already due to one being cracked.. And i now have the hubs being re-done. (bearings- seals) My question is.. The guy at the trailer shop claims that the axel (hub)spindles are of an older style, and i think he said they were 3/4 inch, as opposed to the 1" they are now using for standard. I will have freshly rebuilt hubs today, and i am also thinking to replace the axle itself. Do they make an axle now that has these older spindles on them? i would hate to have wasted the 35 bucks on freshly rebuilt hubs only to have to replace them when i get a new axle. Seems everything i find has the 1" or above.. Thanks

3/4" axles aren't used much any more. They were common on small trailers for small boats and other uses a while back.

Nothing wrong with them, as long as they're adequate for the job. I have a 3/4" axle under the trailer for my 12' aluminum boat.

If you get the hubs rebuilt, fix the spring, and maintain things properly, you should have a unit that will last for many more years.

Incidentally, new hubs are available for those axles, if you ever need them, from Trailer Parts Superstore. I replaced my wheels with built-in hubs with them this year, and things are working great.

there are a lot of old trailers around with 3/4" spindles, my boat parts store even stocks bearings for them.

Yup.. I have replaced the springs and hubs are rebuilt like new. Searching now for either an axle with the 3/4 spindles already on it, or a couple of 3/4 spindles i can have put onto an axle. If i find one, i will let you know. Thanks for the replies..

Update.. Guy is selling me 2 brand new style hubs, axle u-bolt kit and bearing buddies all for 80 bucks.. Hows that for a deal? Made me wait a week and felt bad for me i guess.. This guy rocks. Sold me 2 leaf springs for 40 bucks as well.. Cartco in gray maine.
