Hope to get more response than prior posts.

Evinrude 70hp 1978 bought sat for two years....had good compression (need to recheck so don't ask) rebuilt carbs, replaced fuel filter. Engine then idled and moved in gear but died on throttle up....choking the engine I could get throttle up......

Isolating problems led me to switch to seperate gas tank for "fuel starvation" hypothesis.

Engine definitely ran better....but sounded to this lubber like tuning low idle....in the process running at three quarter the engine made an abrupt "thud" and quit....would not idle well or move in gear......

Thoughts or help appreciated

Why did this engine sit for two years before you got it?When you say the carbs were rebuilt, did that involve removeing any little alluminum core plugs? If not then this carb was not rebuilt or cleaned properly and those carb may be a source of your problems.

thanks for your reply.....
removed the alum plugs for low idle, and high...but did not remove one inside float area or on side of carb......
refered to seloc manual which did not describe full rebuild....so thought no need. surprised that the manual was "thin" on this.

Also I found that the fuel oil mix was very thin....oil not well mixed...wondered whether the engine quit due to heat

thoughts
