The Mercruiser head has a water inlet machined into the front of the head that the ford head does not, it is drilled and tapped for the lifting rings and there is a "freeze" plug in the back, that may or may not be in the ford head (I don't know). At the very least you would have to have a hole machined for the water inlet to make the ford work. I do know that some of the hot rod/racing car guys use these engines in racing applications with aluminum heads, so apparently it can be done. That is the extent of my knowledge
