I have been trying to track down my ticking noise for some time now. I have a blueprinted motor that has only 100 hours on her. I can go out and start it first thing in the morning WITHOUT touching the throttle and the thing is fine, no ticking at this point. I can give it a little throttle to about 1000 RPM's. I back off on the throttle and the ticking is there. I have done a leak down test on cylinder's 1 & 2. I loosened all the rocker arms to get the valves closed and once I insert the leak down tool I can hear the air coming from somewhere. You can't hear air coming from the carb (intake) side or the exhaust side. It sounds like it is coming from around the pushrod area.
Can anyone give me some insight into this, the thing starts right up and seems to run fine....

Eric, there is one of those buggers on the front and the back. The mirror trick that wrestling coach suggested gave me a great look at the back. Thats how i found the front one. Because my back one looked brand new. Be sure to post what you found.

The thing is im pretty sure my problem is internally. There is a distinct difference in noises between an exhaust leak and an internal engine tick. The ticking you were having was at any RPM range correct. Mine is only from idle to about 1000 RPM's. Were you still interested in doing that swap we were talking about before?
