3.7 Mercruiser head

I have a '87 3.7 mercruiser which ive re-done, I have one question. Can any one out there tell me for sure if it utilizes the ford 460 head or not so I can purchase an aftermarket valve cover for it?

So I should be able to buy an aftermarket valve cover for a 460 ford then?

I am not sure. You could check a 460 gasket against your head. The 470 cover has a vent that goes to a hose on the flame arrestor that would not be on the ford cover, and a stud casting up front. Good luck..

Why would you when the Merc cast one is a nicely made piece?

The merc valve cover is made to come out level on top you are dealing with a v8 head sitting on a vertical in line 4 cyl so the angles are a bit odd..A v8 valve cover on top of that would come out looking cockeyed and would, id think, dress your engine down not up. Would fit though.

Does anyone know if the Ford 460 head is a standard Ford Head? If I get a rebuilt, do I have to get the Mercuriser version or can I just get a Ford 460 Head?
