Re: 3.7 mercruiser push rod questions
yay....im back to confused. beats the **** out of depressed. I was looking at the engine again, decided to hold my hand up against the intake port and feel this 30 psi for myself. Scared the crap out of me when it almost ripped my palm off. All four cylinders do it. I thought 1 and four were toast because it felt like 30 psi but then I remembered the plugs were out. Put them back in and they pull the same, or at least feels the same to me. Perhaps she is not dead.
hooked up gauge to daily driver truck that has 10,000 miles on fresh rebuild. Damn gauge, said truck has 60psi. YAY its the gauge. Now I feel much better. But still stumped on what to do. Engine was blowing **** all over the place when I was turning it over. Out came some tiny little nuts and shells of little nuts. Mouse living in there?
I also took off a cover to the lifters. ( didn't know what it was so I took it off.) its cool that it has that plate. All lifters seem to operate normal.
Now im down some money in gaskets, know that I have rusty intake ports, and am still not sure what to do. Pull the head? buy the gaskets and put her back together?
All I know for sure is by my hand the compression felt good. ill get a new gauge and test it again. First on my truck to ensure gauge works, then on the boat.
please give me a few things to do, check, test, etc...
I hate not knowing what is wrong, so I disassemble to find out. I know it can/does cost me time and money in gaskets, but I feel its worth it to learn/ find out problems. Thanks again for your help, im off to night job now. Ill check back late, and go from there.
