I am going to be replacing the lifters in my motor. Im not quite sure if I need to fill the new ones with oil to "prime" them before putting them in. Can anyone give me some insight into this?
Thanks

I have never pre- primed lifters and never had a problem. Always prime the oil pump with a new cam/ lifters and that takes care of the lifter prime

Re: 3.7 new lifter installation

Heres my issue, I re-built my motor 99 hours ago and now the lifters need to be replaced. Should I prime them? Ive read a couple of posts saying to, then on the other hand ive read some that states that theres no need to. I just don't want to ruin the new ones is all..

Then prime them! It sure won't hurt anything.

soak them in a clean vat of oil then. Shouldn't need any more priming than that..
Once your motor fires, get it above 2,500 RPM and vary it for20 mins or so. That will bed the lifters to the camshaft and you should be set

that is what will surely bed the lifters to the cam. It's just a way to be sure given you had lifter problems.
