1983 75 HP Rude. I replaced the coil and spark plug wires. There is intermittent spark after about 15 min of running. I lift the hood and check things out, all looks ok then all of a sudden I have spark again. Whether or not I lift the hood. This happens at any throttle position. I am at a loss.

I also went and check resistances of all the components I could, as recomended by Seloc manual. All withing spec. Going out again to see if it will keep doing the same thing and when it does I'll get the ohm meter out again.

Re: #3 cylindar has intermittent spark

I broke down and bought a used PowerPak in hopes it will solve this problem. I should get it in a couple of days, went out again last week to see if it was fixed after checking a number of things but no luck it gets to a certain point or temp and bang there goes number three. It comes back after it sits or even while trying to get back in on 2 cylinders. Which I can :) the only other things it could be is the stator or timer base...lets hope it's the PP.

Often times a failing coil will cut out when it gets warm and then work again when it cools down. Maybe this is your problem. Just a possibility. :)

I replaced the coil already, I was hoping that was it since it was only 20 bucks...oh well that's boating I guess. I'll let you all know how lucky I get.

Re: #3 cylindar has intermittent spark - problem solved

Problem solved. Or at least I think so, I replaced the Powerpak and the engine runs and runs without dropping spark on any cylinder. I was expecting it to die any second but it kept going so I am confident that the issue was the powerpack, this one was hard, since it would run great for an undetermined period of time then die. Then come to life again after sitting. It could have been worse it could have been the stator...yikes 100's for that.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions on troubleshooting this issue. It is much easier when you know you are not alone trying to figure this out. I am going out tomorrow morning for some fish, or just to play I'll post an update.
