If you take your time and look around, you can find many decent boats to choose from for $3000. Step 1 should be to simply spend time looking. Look at ebay, look locally, look at fishing/boating websites for your area that allow free classifieds. Once you identify a couple of that you find interesting, take a knowledgeable person with you and go look at the boats. After a little time looking, you will be able to identify the better boats.

As Bondo shows, for $3000 you can find boats from 11' to 40' long.

Just be careful down south with the expected surge of hurricane and flood damaged boats.

Good luck and don't buy the first one you see. There are a lot of boats on the market right now.
