3 hp cylinder water leak

my '63 3 hp started missing in the lower cylinder a few days ago. i saw a small amount of water on the plug and finally ran it with the lower plug out. as i feared it's spitting water from that cylinder. i assume i've got a corrosion leak somewhere in the water jacket. any suggestions or has this engine gone to the great beyond? thanks, jon s

Welcome to iboats, I won't ask any questions and tell you that your head gasket is blown, remove the head and replace the gasket and it should be solved.

thanks for the welcome and the excellent suggestion. it crossed my mind that it could be the head gasket - easy to do. i would hate to lose the motor since it has an excellent camo paint job for duck hunting. i'll let you know - jon s

thanks so much. it was the head gasket. i suppose after 56 years it was supposed to be brittle and fragile. and o f course just to make it more fun the same cylinder had an intermittent miss which turned out to be a loose capacitor connection. i had to buy a new gasket from an evinrude dealer because my abestos sheet stock was 30 years old and pretty brittle also. i discovered that there's no more sheet stock to make your own head gaskets - abestos is long gone. at any rate thanks again; i appreciate your help. jon s

Damn son, this crystal ball I bought for for 5 cents at a yard sale really works!!!!! All kidding aside I'm glad you fixed it, anytime there is water in the cylinders the first suspect is the head gasket, good luck with your new motor!
