Re: 3 hp evinrude engine does not work
Hi Boatman,

Do you have a Johnson, Evinrude, Bombardier dealer near by? This would be a good place to get parts for your motor. Many of these dealers will still service parts for the old motors.

Other places to look for parts might be:
http://www.maxrules.com/

http://www.featherweightoutboards.com

http://www.twincityoutboards.com

I have found all of these places to be very helpful in finding parts for older motors. The people are very friendly too. All you need to do is tell them the model number, serial number of the motor, then describe the part to them and they can look-up the part number for you.

Good Luck
HACE FUN!

Please keep us informed of your progress

SPARK PLUG WIRE LOCATION
With the spark plugs and flywheel removed, put the Flywheel nut back on the shaft. Use a wrench to turn the motor UNTILL the top cylinder is showing the piston at the top of the cylinder/stroke.
Now look at your sets of points. The set that is OPEN is associated with this top cylinder. Follow the wire from this set of points, to the Coil. This is the coil that should go to the top cylinder. Frequently the plug wire of the top cylinder will have a BAND on it near to the plug boot.

Hope this helps
