Ok let's see I went out yesterday boat was running great . Started trolling after a few hrs of bottom fishing and about a hr after that my engine stalled and I couldn't get it going again . A little about the engine its a 2000 Johnson 250 one with carbs . I could almost get it started if I choked it it would start for a sec then die before I could get it in gear . So after 30 min I gave up a got a 3 hr tow back in . So I went out today and figured ide start with the easy stuff so I replaced the plugs . It started rite up no prob . So what I'm asking if I fouled my plugs or plug wouldn't it have atleat ran a little or sputtery . The plugs were very dirty I decarbed the engine a few weeks ago and never changed em . I knew I should of. So u think I'm all set to try n put it back in or should I do some pokeing around .

Check engine temp.
Make a mark on the VRO oil tank, check that oil consumption is about 2% of fuel consumption. Might be slightly less, but not more.
Check that primer solenoid is not leaking fuel when running. (remove the small hoses, no fuel out when engine is running).

Re: 3 hr tow

I don't know if it makes a difference at the end of last season I got a new Vro pump and all new fuel line so I'm hope n its not another fuel issue . I was leaning towards power pack but that went out the window when it started rite up today . Maybe it need to really warm up to recreate the prob . Do u think its safe to idle on the trailer for a hr or so to heat it up a bit .

Best if you may get the lower unit in a tub of water and not on muffs. Checking temp on muffs is a waste of time and fuel.

Gilligan had a three hour towr (tour actually). LOL. I'm just glad you made it back safe. I agree you need to run it hard for a while to recreate the conditions. Hopefully it was the plugs but sounds like maybe your were not getting fuel. Best of luck. Rick.

Ya idk I'm gonna run her for a hr today and see how it runs . And just throw it sat and hope for the best . Hopefully it was a cross between being flooded and the plugs being dirty from decarbing . This would actually b the cheapest I've ever got out of fixing the boat . I thought I was gonna BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND

Let see if I read this right.....

You decarbed the engine, but didn't change the plugs after? You then trolled for an hour and it quit on you? And then the plugs were fouled when you pulled 'em out??

Be glad that's all that happened. Put new plugs in, go one step hotter if you intend to troll alot, and go fish!
