3 questions

1. when i turn the key on to the first notch it makes the little whine tone, i go right into cranking it up. is that ok or do i have to listen to it for however long it takes to go off. as soon as i crank it no tone
2. my oil temp gauge reads a fluctuating 0 at idle and up to almost 40 when accelerating. the 1999 5.0 mercruiser purrs like a kitten with absolutely no ticks rattles or knocks, motor is very quite. is this ok?
it accelerates up to 50mph with no problem and gets on plane very quick
3. temp runs 180ish at wakeboarding speed (8-10mph?) for my 7 year old, will go to 170-175 when cruising 20-40mph

just had waterpump, thermostat, impellar, shutters, and both risers/manifolds replaced, also old impellar came out fully intact

1. OK (assuming that is just your system check alarm).
2. Probably your sending unit needs to be replaced. Repair or verify before taking it out again to be safe. I had a motor that made no noise at 3 psi.
3.If you are running a 170 thermostat, you are fine. 160, you're OK. 140, need to verify actual temperature.

Your temp should read the same at all rpm.Was impeller installed correct?Could be a corroded sender or loose connections/bad ground.Jerry

the oil sender unit you should clean the connections.also the connections on the gauges.if that doesnt fix it than you may have to replace the sender.40psi on the oil is what you want.clean the connections on the ignition key also hell while your there and under the dash clean em all.save you time latter.u have fuses?sometimes they get loose.check them.

thats a warning buzzer telling him no oil pressure.my friends oil sender unit blew off the block he didin't have a buzzer nasty 4 seconds and blew his 7.4 merc. my other friend installed a temp one with a oil one.
