3 wire to 2 wire tt motor

Have a 74 Johnson 175,Have replaced my tt motor ,my old motor had 3 wires and my new motor has 2 wires,has the blue,green but no black,also my old setup used the solenoid,What is required to make the conversion to run my 2 wire motor?Many thanks Jay..

Welcome Jay!<br /><br />The two wire motor is used in the later TNT applications. It works by switching polarity on the two wires.....up - blue wire gets the "+" and green gets the "-". Down....swat the polarity.<br /><br />The application uses two solenoids....smaller than the one you have. The solenoid is energized by low current apllication to a coil relay that picks up a heavy contact. When the heavy contact picks up, the motor runs in the direction called for.<br /><br />To say yourself some headaches, look around for a replacement motor for your three wire application. It would honestly save you a lotta trouble.<br /><br />Don't hesitate to ask questions....thanks!<br /><br />The link below is to iboat store. Well was hoping to use what i have ,will do some searching for diagrams that use the application with the small relays,Thanks for the reply...Jay..

Actually all you need is the two plug in recpticles for the relays. Just put them (along with the relays) into the box after you remove the existing relay.

You can/should of bought the "replacement" 3 wire motor. Then it's a direct change over. Eazier than buying the relays/plugs and making up the wiring... See if you can exchange the two wire back for the three wire motor.. Arco is the manufacturer...

Pop over to the local library Jay....they should have copies of Clymers and Selocs on the shelf. They all got diagrams in them.....and you can copy them..
