30 / 35 HP lower unit internals

Hi all<br /><br />Does anyone know if the gear etc. from a 1976 35 HP lower unit will interchange with a 30 HP 1985 l/u. I am aware the shift rod is different, as the later ones are seperated behind the water intake and the earlier behind the small lid in midsection, but the rest ? Looking for the possibility to help someone out of trouble.

thanks for your reply Jim.<br /><br />Will none of it work ? He bought a boat, but unfortunetely there was no l/u oil in at all. If just gears and bearings could fit, everyone would be happy.

How far up wil 76 go ? to 1978 ?

I'll check the parts manual and let ya' know GD. If I recall right, the early 30's were split gear cases. Not much beef to the gears.

Hi Jim<br /><br />No - both 76 and 85 are thru-hub. It turned out that the motor he had was a 77 so it was all fine.<br />thanks for your help.
