30 hp evinrude NO SERIAL?

so the serial and model number are wore off of my outboard on the transom mount where it usually it. Are these numbers located somwhere else so i know exactly what i have? any help appreciated. thanks.

For starters welcome aboard... :welcome: Good to have you joint us...

Okay, do you know the year of the engine? On my Johnson OB there is a plate that looks like a freeze plug on the very top of the engine that has info about the engine. See if yours has one and post those numbers. Other then that, if you do know the year of your engine you can probably search on this website (and others) to see your engine parts break down for most any part you could need.

hey thanks for the welcome - i don't know what year it is but i will try and look at the motor tonight and see what i can find. would be good to know what i am dealing with. Any ideas on how to find out what year it is?

Well if you can find that freeze plug looking tag on the top of the engine, it will yield/decode the year also. Here are a couple of pictures of what my freeze plug looking tag looks like and where it was located. Yours could be in a different location as well. These pictures was right before I disassembled the engine for a complete rebuild...

ok i found the freeze plug who has got the magic decoder ring - my engine is an R8173847 i googled it and found nothing

I'm curious about how wear occurs on that location.......
Post a pic of the motor? If it's all original it won't be hard to tell.

i should be able to post a picture of that but it will be tough to tell since i ground them off with an angle grinder after i stole it.....
