Today I noticed that gas is leaking out from the prop seal area on the lower unit. My assumption is that the 6 gallon tank is expanding and pressurizing the fuel system, but I would think the float should stop that? The motor idles Ok and does not flood out.

Any idea's without ripping the starter assemply out to get at the float bowl? The motor is a 1998

Define "gas is leaking" are you talking about a few drops or it is pouring out?

If the motor idles I can't see you have a bad float or it would be flooded alll the time you would think.

Pull the prop and see exactly where the leak is, the housing around the rpop shaft or is it the prop shaft seal leaking.

Right between the prop and the lower unit, gas was seeping out and then running down the skeg and dripping:

Drip 1..2...3 Drip 1...2...3 Drip

I noticed the Fuel tank was expanded from heat so I was thinking that it migh be pressuring it out, however like I said it would seem that the float would cut that off?

As for the fuel pump I checked the diaphram and its not cracked or anything? there is a unit between the fuel pump and the carb with a Air valve and a red level, could I try flipping this on or off and see if that does anything?

I am in no way an expert. an unvented tank in the heat/sun would seem
to build a lot of pressure and possibly overcome the float and needles ability
stay closed. what do others feel about this. I have seen water float valves in mechanical systems being overpowered by city water pressure.

I think I figured it out, after TS Hannah passed through, I went out and tryed to start the motor and it would not spin over, pulled the plugs and found that the cylinder was completely full of gas. I got it emptied and pushed on the primer bulb, gas squirted out the top of the carb hole. THere is a little hose that runs to that on/off switch I spoke of above. so I turned that switch off and the gas does not seep out now when I pump the bulb ( nor does the float leak) I looked up in the seloc and the switch is part of the choke priming system? Anyhow I guess my awnser is to turn that switch off or disconnect the gas line.
