Hello,

I know this has been beat to death, but I am confused with which tiny tach to purchase for my 1996 30 HP - 2 Stroke, 2 cylinder. I researched this site for an hour, and was convinced I needed the 1C (fire every 180 degrees of rotation), but to be sure I called Tiny Tach. The lady said "Umm, it's the 2C." She sounded like the receptionist.

Anyways, I don't want order the wrong model, and I know many people own 2 Cylinder 25-30HP 2-strokes. So I was hoping for a safe answer from somebody who's purchased one.

Thanks so much for your input. Sorry to beat a dead horse.

Thanks
Jboomer

Re: 30 johnson - tach model

This is a question I've asked in the past too without real definitive answers. I'd rather have an analog tach but can't seem to find information on how to hook one to my '79 Johnson 25. The only thing I don't like about the tiny tach is that the battery is not replaceable so after 5 years you'll have to buy another.

As for the model airplane tach forget about it. I've been flying RC airplanes for several years now and those tachs won't work. They are hand held and you hold them in front of a moving properllor just long enough to check your rpms. After that you turn them off and throw them in your field box. They have no wiring what-so-ever.

Either one of the tiny tachs will work. The 2C would attach to 1 plug wire. The 1C would attach to both plug wires (assuming a 2 cyl motor). When I got mine I talked to someone & they suggested the 1C becuase he felt it would be better reading 2 pulses. He said the 2C could sometimes get interference from the other unused plug wire & get bad readings.

BTW, I think they are great. You really know for sure what your rpm's are (to 10 rpm's)
