Re: 30 year old TV

Maybe you could tape a quarter to it before throwing it out... Obviously a tube model and most tubes are extremely hard to come by if at all. Those old tube TVs were built to service, but not anymore. And the newer TVs are throw away items when they stop working. Cost more to repair then just buying a new one now.
hear ya.my 3 year old 55 inch led Samsung has developed a line so I took it to a local tv repair for Samsung products and was told it would cost more to fix than it would to by a new one.i won this tv in a draw so its a bonus tv to me.i took my Panasonic 50 inch plasma out to the garage and mounted it on the wall on a swivel base.i quess its time to swap them around now.the Panasonic has spent 3 winters in a very cold garage until you heated the garage with the woody and still works perfectly and the picture is still stunning so in to the house she comes again!the Sammy will be relegated to garage duty.

Re: 30 year old TV

Here is my view.........

Initial cost of the TV divided by how old it is........

Let's say in 1984 dollars you paid top dollar...........$500 (or more) and it's 357 months old.......... about $1.40/month.......... it cost less then you spent on coffee!

Just dump it........... learning to control a new remote is not that much of a learning curve. Charity's will not even accept a TV that old. Just put it by the curb with a sign.....FREE

Bob_VT, if you're serious about getting rid of anything these days, don't put a sign saying "FREE" on it, put a sign saying "$35" or something to that effect and leave it out over night and it will be gone in the morning. Free stuff will last forever with nobody wanting it.

Here you would need to pay to offload it but I seem to recall Best Buy will take them free of charge. I've still got maybe 4 old school TV's in the basement off in a corner.

The problem with my TV is that there is generally nothing of value ON it.

Like Gallagher said, "It's got a brightness knob, but it doesn't work!"

I think I send out 3 to 4 pallets with 8 to 10 TVs each out every week......some of them look pretty neat.....most still work
