I've got a 3012 for a project fixer. It wasn't running after sitting for a long while before I bought it. Rebuilt carb then replaced coils and points. Now it's running but it gets really stinkin hot. I can see some water spraying out the exhaust port and it looks like most of my other motors. I took the exhaust plug out and some water was shooting out that, not a steady stream or anything. I had the head off and didn't see any blockage or sign of crap around the cylinders. Is there a sure way to know if I'm getting good water flow?

I'm probably going to tear the shaft off tonight and chase down the entire circuit of water flow. I already noticed the grommet to water pipe connection on the water pump wasn't the greatest. And the water pipe feels real loose. Going to be another learning experience when I get this apart. I just picked up a JW10 so worst case I put the 3012 back together using that as a roadmap.

Re: 3012 Overheating

The water inlet tube was disconnected at the top. I put it back into the hole but i think it will fall out again. Im guessing im missing something to keep it plugged in. Ran cold as ice after i reconnected pipe. Guess i learned u need to remove that plug to actually know if u have good water flow. Just looking at exhaust doesnt mean anything.
