30hp evinrude pivot pin on lower unit next to drain hole

help i can,t get pivot pin back in lower unit.i pulled it out thinking i was going to drain oil,now will not go back in any ideas?????:facepalm:

Don't mess with the gear shifter if you haven't already.
I had luck by standing motor on it's head, and eventually was able to align the shifter and pivot pin hole using a pointy object. Good luck.

Yep, what Jasper said. Hope you get lucky. If not, lower unit work will be lurking in the future.

If you can see half the hole in the internal fork, grind or file the pin to a bevel. Then stick the pointy end in the half hole and rotate while pushing gently. It should drag the part into position and go on in.

And don't do that again.

You could also use a pointy tipped object such as a scratch awl or screw driver to line the holes up. It actually pretty easy to line things back up.
