Today 343 Firefighters and paramedics along with thousands of other civilians gave their lives when our freedom came under attack. I'd like everyone to just take a moment to thank their local firemen and paramedics for putting their lives on the line every day. I know we have a lot of members in emergency services and I just wanted to thank you all for what you do, you really redefine the word hero.

Bravo Zak.

Did some reflecting yesterday on Sept 11, ES crews and those who are working hard to memorialize it and keep it from ever happening again.

Yes...
To anybody who serves our country, either as a first responder, a soldier who defends our freedom, or a relative of either who has to face the possibility of their family member not coming home, thank you for your sacrifice.

I don't know if anybody here got a chance to watch some of the programs on History channel yesterday. One of them was "102 Minutes That Changed America". It was a compilation of both news and amateur footage in chronological order as the events of that day unfolded. IMHO the most sobering footage (short of the towers collapsing, and the people leaping from the building) was the groups of firemen assembling a few blocks away, getting there equipment in order and extra bottles of air. If I remember correctly, neither of the towers had fallen yet, but they knew it was a bad situation for sure. You next see a sea of fire fighters marching to-wards the buildings. I looked at their faces, and wondered how many of these guys didn't make it, how many have been disabled by it, and how many have died after it.:(

This website tribute puts it into more personal and human terms, rather than just statistics. They were the front-liners that day and deserve every bit of accolade that they receive..
What is remarkable IMO, is that the Chiefs and Captains were obviously right on the fire-line as well; probably in command posts in the Towers...and proportionally lost as many as men as the rank and file.
It is well worth a look.
