35 hp 1984 Evinrude has oil leaking under flywheel

My son's Evinrude has oil leaking from under the flywheel of the engine. The oil pools on top of engine block right under the flywheel. What could possibly be causing this? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, George Santee, CA

The usual culprit is a bad upper crank seal. You'll have to pull the flywheel and stator and such to replace it. Be very careful not to scratch or scuff the crank when removing the seal.
Cheap, but PITA fix.
