Re: 35 HP Chrysler

Chrysler made two different versions of the 35. I don't pay attention to model numbers so we'll make it easy. Do the spark plugs come straight out of the head toward the back of the engine or do they come out at almost a 90 degree angle toward the side? Each has a slightly different procedure. AND each has a different impeller. If you have not ordered the impeller yet, be sure to be specific as to which model you have.

However, to set your mind at ease, you are only looking at about an hours worth of work--maybe two since you have never done it before.

Correct impeller is 47-F433065-2. They used to be 10 vanes and are now 6. The sticky above does not really cover this motor. The main differences is the shift linkage in the motor leg. Removing that and re adjusting it is the hardest part of the change out but do able. I would recommend a Clymer manual. With fewer people out there willing to work on these older motors it will make your life easier.

I got the lower unit dropped down and the brass water tube came all the way out. Does this have to be put back in an exact place in the top of the motor, I may be blind but I can't see where it needs to go!

Use a flashlight and look up there. There is a hole it must fit into. A lot of times you can just put the water tube in that hole and the grommet will hold it in place. Also make sure when you put the new impeller in that you have the impeller key in the driveshaft. When installing the impeller you want to put the key on the shaft put the impeller on the drive shaft and house it on the impeller key. Then put the water pump down on top. While slowly turning the drive shaft clockwise put firm pressure down on the water pump till it bottoms out.

Is this motor new to you? Have you had it out with water circulating before? When you installed the impeller did you insert the drive shaft impeller pin part number 4 going into the drive shaft?

It could be a lot of things. Water tube not lined up, Water level not high enough in water tank (dont use water muffs) Impeller vanes going the wrong way.

When you removed the old impeller was it still intact or was it in pieces?

I have had the motor and it worked fine. the impellar had come apart. I was only using a small tub of water to check it in, I think I will go get me a barrel or just take it to the lake real quick before I tear it back apart. Thanks for the help!

Test tank should go all the way to the anti ventilation or anti cavitation plate. If your impeller broke apart you will need to find all the pieces of the old impeller. If pieces went into the the exhaust gaskets you could be getting a blockage up there. Does your motor have a clear tube going to the Thermostat just above the spark plugs? If so can you see water flowing there?

The rubber part just seperated from the brass sleeve. I had water up to the cavitation plate barely, but I didn't see any water in the clear hose. It might have been spitting out a little bit of water, but not much.
