Hello,
I have a 35 hp Evinrude Lark, it is a very old motor. Serial Number is 35514-11712. it is a 2 cycle motor. it is also OBC Certified at 4500 rpm. I am wanting to purchase a tune-up and repair manual but am not sure of the year. The dealer I bought it from could not tell me the year either. He took it in on trade and the owner did not know either. Any help or suggestions of how to find out would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me by responding to this post or emailing me at DRBRAN@IOWATELECOM.NET.
Thanks for your time.
Brandi

Hi.
It is a 1958.
Go to either: "Johnson outboard" on e-bay or
www.kencook.com
for manuals.
Do not be too much in a hurry to do a tune up.
First try the thing, you may be in for a surprise.
good luck.

Thanks Rolmops!
As far as a tune-up, I believe it is due. We just changed the oil in the lower unit and it was obviously bad, put in new spark plugs cause the wrong ones were in it. The previous owner did not take care of it and traded it in and the dealer did nothing to it. It is leaking fuel not a whole lot but enough to cause concern. It does not run at the recommended rpms. I think some TLC and clean up it would run excellent. For an old motor she runs okay but can run much better. I don't know alot about outboards, I prefer my chevy big blocks and small blocks. But the manuals will teach me what I need to know for maintenance and upkeep to keep her runnin' smooth.

BRANDI AND DAVE ,
DONT THINK THESE OLD MOTORS ARE JUNK IF IT DONT
COME ON LINE THE FIRST TRY. THEY ARE LIKE CLASIC
CARS, PLAY WITH THEM BUT DONT GET FRUSTRATED AND GIVE UP. AS FOR THE MANUALS, GO TO YOUR LOCAL NAPA STORE AND ORDER THE JOHNSON/EVENRUDE 1956-1970 1.5-40 HP SELOC MANUAL (ITS IN THE NAPA MARINE CATALOG)
GOOD LUCK I LOVE THESE OLD MOTORS. I HAVE A 1956 25 HP JOHNSON RDF 17 RUNS LIKE A DREAM. RANDY

Re: 35 HP Evinrude Lark - Need to know what year?

About 2 months ago, I picked up a 1956 Evinrude 10 hp from a junkyard. The motor had several modifications, including a broken shift lever, a relocated fuel connection, a one inch hole in the cavitation plate, a copper tube connected to the water intake plate, and the hood had been shellacked. I replaced the lower gear oil and spark plugs, checked the compression, hooked up gas mixed at 24:1, and three pulls later had a functioning engine. It's currently being restored, and the modifications are being returned to original. Go to Kencook.com for any manual you need. These old motors can be great finds and great fun.

Re: 35 HP Evinrude Lark - Need to know what year?

anybody know how to wire one of these? I see two thick wires, the main lead, and ground, and then there are three smaller lines, one to the starter solenoid, and one to the back of the motor, up under the pull start, and another to the front of the motor, up under the pull start. I have NO idea how to wire these to the battery, and I will be using my own run and start switches, hardware store style. so ANY help is appreciated. I don't want to just connect to a battery and fry anything.

so

help please :)
