Re: 35 hp Force 357f7b Impeller/ lower unit problems

Im not giving up yet, but man is it frustrating!! I have been able to locate a "water pump kit" as well as a needed cotter pin and the pin that goes in the gear shaft that I bent... Is there anything else I might need? Is there anything else that might cause it not to spit water? Like I said the impeller didn't look too bad. How far up in there does the shaft go?

Cause for not spitting water, Thermostat not opening?
Thought I would post the part pic for the lower unit, more so because I haven't seen much of the force motors, but they aren't too different to the Chrysler as I expected.
Have you checked your thermostat? if not you could take it out of play and run a hose up your water tube now that you have your lower unit off, you should get a flow of water with a hose but you need to take the thermostat out first.
If you replace the thermostat you will need a gasket as well, you may be able to test your thermostat with a saucepan of water and heating it to the temp range to see if it opens, you will need a thermometer to do this.

nope. all OK -- should have done a periodic check on the impeller anyway. When you locate the t.stat and get it out, test it under hot water (can dip it in boiling water with a tongs, or just hot tap water). If its working, you will see it open and close (will see the spring contract and expand). If it doubt (corrosion, doesn't show some life when testing, or whatever) replace it. Can't say for certain that's the issue you are seeing with the water stream but could be. In any case, the motor won't run as well as it should without a working t.stat.

I shined a light up into the motor and the shaft doesn't appear to be rusted or corroded too bad up at the top. However, I am having extreme difficulty getting it out even using liberal amounts of pb blaster. A waving white flag might be in my future.

So I looked into getting a new motor, any brand. Just something new, that someone didn't sell just to get rid of problem and WOW theyre expensive. Any advice? Different brands? I need a 25-30 hp or better and I was looking to spend 2 grand or so. I suppose this was a silly idea.
