Well pulled LU off again and started the procedure to line up shift shaft but discovered that the shift shaft just turns and turns does not catch on the splines at the bottom of the LU unscrewed the round keeper on the top of the shaft and pulled out the shift shaft the splines on the shaft looked good and miced out at 31 mm both top and bottom.
Guess something broke at the bottom of the shift shaft.
Next question is how to pull the prop shaft and seals and bearings to get to the forward bottom of the shaft to see if the pin has snaped?
