I have a 1974 Evinrude 25 hp and want to add electric starting to it. I am wondering if the electric starter bracket off a 1976 Evinrude 35 hp would fit my 25. I checked and while the part numbers are different, there are some differences and some similarities. The mount points all look the same, and from the motor specs, I think they could be using the same engine block. Does anyone know if the part will fit?

It could be that some of the older parts may have been superseded by newer parts, but still are comparable. You can check marineengine.com and see which part numbers are comparable.

No, they will not interchange. The 35hp is a 31-cube powerhead, while the 25hp is a 22-cube powerhead. Completely different animals, making the mounting brackets different as well... Your 25 would take starters from any of the 18, 20 and 25hp models back to the early 1960s, but no later than 1976...
