As you are standing behind the motor facing the prop look on the right hand side for a small cover plate held on by 2 screws.

it's in the midsecion on the side? I took the screws off that plate last night, and there is 2 rods in there, one of the rods has 2 sets of screws and some sort of bracket, but I could not turn the screws last night very easily so i stopped...is that what your talking about?

Yes, that is the junction of the upper and lower shift rods. You need to remove the lower screw fully. Take it right out and hold it in your hand. Try not to drop it in the housing but if you do you can get it back once the LU is off. and watch out as the LU could drop then. Make sure it is supported.
