35 Only runs W choke

1989 Force 35HP <br />I just bought this unit and after doing a few things I can only get it to run with full choke.<br />Things I've done<br />1.Fresh 50-1 fuel<br />2.New fuel bulb and lines<br />3.Replaced fuel pump diaphram--old one was cracked.<br />4.Pulled carb, cleaned bowl and jet--Fuel level ok<br />5.New spark plugs<br />6. Compression ck 116 & 118<br />To me it is just starving for fuel--As I said I did clean the jet--and the passage seems clear--anyway to remove the copper line that runs up into carb chamber? (don't know correct name. Looks like a tube in a tube when you have the bowl off.<br /><br />Thanks for any Help

Sounds like this motor has sat for awhile. You will need to remove and disassemble the carbs to clean them properly. It is starved for fuel...<br /><br />Check this out, also...<br /><br /> Awakening a sleeping outboard

If motor is running choked that can be dangerous. Choked means the motor is running lean and can cause damage to the powerhead. What altitude are you at? When you bought the motor was it from the area you live or a different part of the country? Will motor idle okay without choke? <br /><br />Just a side note on the fuel pump. It usually is just the diaphram that can go bad but it dont hurt to replace the fuel valves and gaskets (3 each). The valves are 5 bucks a pop and the gaskets are 25 cents. <br /><br />Try disconnecting the fuel line going to the carb from the fuel pump and pump on the primer bulb. Use a glass or gas tank to put the end of the hose into. Gas should flow pretty easily when you pump it. Recheck the float height on the carb and check for any air leaks. Common place is the rubber o ring on the fuel can next to the disconnect. Maybe try a different primer bulb. Buy a good one. The cheap walmart ones are crap.
