350 mag mpi life span?

hi everyone, im looking at a campion chase 1999 630 zr1 thats got a 350 in it. the engine has got 734 hrs on it. how long do 350's usualy last if well maintained? 1000 hrs till a rebuid,2000? how long have you had yours? id hate to buy a 20k boat and have to rebuid the engine soon after

Like I said in your other thread,

734 hours isn't the problem, it's what kind of maintenance and care it's had that makes the difference. If it looks like new and runs fine, then it's probably in good shape, but 734 hrs and it's all corroded and not running, well, I would walk (run) away.
A mechanical survey by a certified dealer for that type engine and drive would be money well spent when you are looking at 22K for the boat. With the MPI engines, they can get data about the engine as well.

Please don't post the same question in more than one forum.

I just got rid of a pair of 350's that were 22 years old to upgrade to a larger MPI pair. They only had approx 450 hours on them but still ran like new. Like Don said it is all about the maintenance. Fluids, filters, plugs etc Just basic stuff makes all the difference. You asked about how long to a re-build. Do a compression test and a leak down test. that should give you a pretty good idea. Does the person have maintenance records?
